Lord Krishna – Life and Story

Lord Krishna is one of the most beloved and revered deities in Hinduism. He is the eighth incarnation (avatar) of Lord Vishnu and is worshipped as the Supreme God. His life, as described in the Mahabharata, Srimad Bhagavatam, and Vishnu Purana, is filled with divine miracles, wisdom, and devotion.

1. Birth of Krishna (Janmashtami)

• Krishna was born in Mathura as the eighth son of Devaki and Vasudeva.
• His uncle, King Kansa, had heard a prophecy that Devaki’s eighth child would kill him.
• To prevent this, Kansa imprisoned Devaki and Vasudeva and killed their first seven children.
• When Krishna was born, a divine voice guided Vasudeva to take him across the Yamuna River to Gokul, where he was raised by Nanda and Yashoda.

2. Childhood Miracles in Vrindavan

Krishna’s childhood in Gokul and Vrindavan was filled with divine acts and miracles:

(A) Killing of Demons

• Putana → A demoness sent by Kansa to kill Krishna by feeding him poisoned milk. Baby Krishna sucked her life out.
• Shakatasura → Krishna destroyed a demon disguised as a cart.
• Trinavarta → Krishna defeated a whirlwind demon.

(B) Lifting Govardhan Hill

• Indra, the king of gods, became angry when the people of Vrindavan stopped worshipping him.
• He sent heavy rains, but Krishna lifted the entire Govardhan Hill on his little finger, protecting everyone.
• This taught the lesson that devotion is greater than blind rituals.

(C) Stealing Butter (Makhan Chor)

• Krishna was famous as “Makhan Chor” (Butter Thief) because he and his friends loved stealing butter from the Gopis (village women).
• This playful nature made him beloved among the people of Vrindavan.

(D) Raas Leela – The Divine Dance

• Krishna’s love for Radha and the Gopis of Vrindavan symbolized the soul’s longing for God.
• The Raas Leela (divine dance) is seen as the highest form of devotion (Bhakti Yoga).

3. Krishna in Mathura – Defeating Kansa

• At the age of 16, Krishna went to Mathura to confront Kansa.
• He killed the demon wrestlers Chanura and Mushtika.
• Finally, he defeated and killed Kansa, freeing his parents.

4. Krishna in Dwarka – Becoming a King

• After defeating Kansa, Krishna moved to Dwarka and established a new kingdom.
• He married Rukmini, Satyabhama, and other queens.
• He also helped Arjuna marry Subhadra, his sister.

5. Krishna in Mahabharata – The Divine Guide

Krishna played a major role in the Mahabharata, guiding the Pandavas in their struggle against the Kauravas.

(A) Krishna and Arjuna’s Friendship

• Krishna was Arjuna’s best friend and advisor.
• He helped Arjuna win Draupadi’s hand in marriage.

(B) Krishna as a Peacemaker

• Before the Kurukshetra war, Krishna tried to stop the war by sending a peace proposal to the Kauravas, but they refused.

(C) Krishna as Arjuna’s Charioteer – The Bhagavad Gita

• On the battlefield of Kurukshetra, when Arjuna was confused and hesitant to fight, Krishna delivered the Bhagavad Gita.
• The Gita teaches Karma Yoga (selfless action), Bhakti Yoga (devotion), and Jnana Yoga (wisdom).
• Krishna revealed his Vishwaroopa (Universal Form), proving his divine nature.

6. The End of Krishna’s Life (Moksha and Kali Yuga)

• After the Mahabharata war, Krishna stayed in Dwarka.
• A hunter named Jara mistakenly shot an arrow at Krishna’s foot, which led to his departure from Earth.
• His passing marked the beginning of Kali Yuga, the present age of darkness and materialism.

7. Teachings from Krishna’s Life

• Do your duty without attachment (Karma Yoga).
• True love is selfless and pure (Bhakti).
• God is present in everyone and everything.
• Devotion, righteousness, and wisdom lead to liberation (Moksha).

8. Krishna’s Worship and Festivals

• Janmashtami → Krishna’s birthday, celebrated with fasting, singing, and midnight prayers.
• Govardhan Puja → Celebrates Krishna lifting the Govardhan Hill.
• Holi → Festival of colors, celebrating Krishna’s love for Radha.

ભગવાન કૃષ્ણ – જીવન અને વાર્તા
ભગવાન કૃષ્ણ હિન્દુ ધર્મમાં સૌથી પ્રિય અને આદરણીય દેવતાઓમાંના એક છે. તેઓ ભગવાન વિષ્ણુના આઠમા અવતાર (અવતાર) છે અને તેમને સર્વોચ્ચ ભગવાન તરીકે પૂજવામાં આવે છે. મહાભારત, શ્રીમદ્ ભાગવતમ અને વિષ્ણુ પુરાણમાં વર્ણવ્યા મુજબ તેમનું જીવન દૈવી ચમત્કારો, શાણપણ અને ભક્તિથી ભરેલું છે.

૧. કૃષ્ણનો જન્મ (જન્મષ્ટમી)
કૃષ્ણનો જન્મ મથુરામાં દેવકી અને વાસુદેવના આઠમા પુત્ર તરીકે થયો હતો. તેમના કાકા, રાજા કંસને એક ભવિષ્યવાણી સાંભળી હતી કે દેવકીનું આઠમું બાળક તેમને મારી નાખશે. આને રોકવા માટે, કંસાએ દેવકી અને વાસુદેવને કેદ કર્યા અને તેમના પહેલા સાત બાળકોને મારી નાખ્યા. જ્યારે કૃષ્ણનો જન્મ થયો, ત્યારે એક દૈવી વાણીએ વાસુદેવને યમુના નદી પાર ગોકુળ લઈ જવા માટે માર્ગદર્શન આપ્યું, જ્યાં નંદ અને યશોદાએ તેમનો ઉછેર કર્યો.

2. વૃંદાવનમાં બાળપણના ચમત્કારો
   ગોકુળ અને વૃંદાવનમાં કૃષ્ણનું બાળપણ દૈવી કાર્યો અને ચમત્કારોથી ભરેલું હતું:
   (A) રાક્ષસોનો વધ
   પુતના → કંસ દ્વારા કૃષ્ણને ઝેરી દૂધ પીવડાવીને મારવા માટે મોકલવામાં આવેલી રાક્ષસી. બાળ કૃષ્ણે તેનું જીવન ચૂસી લીધું.
   શકતાસુર → કૃષ્ણે ગાડીના વેશમાં આવેલા એક રાક્ષસનો નાશ કર્યો.

ત્રિનવર્ત → કૃષ્ણે એક વાવંટોળિયા રાક્ષસને હરાવ્યો.

(B) ગોવર્ધન પર્વત ઉપાડવો
વૃંદાવનના લોકોએ તેમની પૂજા બંધ કરી ત્યારે દેવોના રાજા ઇન્દ્ર ગુસ્સે થયા. તેમણે ભારે વરસાદ મોકલ્યો, પરંતુ કૃષ્ણે સમગ્ર ગોવર્ધન પર્વતને પોતાની નાની આંગળી પર ઉંચો કરી દીધો, બધાનું રક્ષણ કર્યું. આનાથી પાઠ શીખવવામાં આવ્યો કે ભક્તિ આંધળી વિધિઓ કરતાં મહાન છે.

(C) માખણ ચોર (માખણ ચોર)
કૃષ્ણ “માખણ ચોર” (માખણ ચોર) તરીકે પ્રખ્યાત હતા કારણ કે તેમને અને તેમના મિત્રોને ગોપીઓ (ગામની સ્ત્રીઓ) પાસેથી માખણ ચોરી કરવાનું ખૂબ ગમતું હતું. આ રમતિયાળ સ્વભાવે તેમને વૃંદાવનના લોકોમાં પ્રિય બનાવ્યા.

(ડ) રાસલીલા – દૈવી નૃત્ય
કૃષ્ણનો રાધા અને વૃંદાવનની ગોપીઓ પ્રત્યેનો પ્રેમ ભગવાન પ્રત્યે આત્માની ઝંખનાનું પ્રતીક હતો. રાસલીલા (દૈવી નૃત્ય) ને ભક્તિના સર્વોચ્ચ સ્વરૂપ (ભક્તિ યોગ) તરીકે જોવામાં આવે છે.

૩. મથુરામાં કૃષ્ણ – કંસને હરાવવા
૧૬ વર્ષની ઉંમરે, કૃષ્ણ કંસનો સામનો કરવા મથુરા ગયા. તેમણે રાક્ષસોના કુસ્તીબાજો ચાનુરા અને મુષ્ટિકાનો વધ કર્યો. અંતે, તેમણે કંસને હરાવીને તેની હત્યા કરી, તેના માતાપિતાને મુક્ત કર્યા.

૪. દ્વારકામાં કૃષ્ણ – રાજા બન્યા
કંસને હરાવ્યા પછી, કૃષ્ણ દ્વારકા ગયા અને એક નવું રાજ્ય સ્થાપિત કર્યું. તેમણે રુક્મિણી, સત્યભામા અને અન્ય રાણીઓ સાથે લગ્ન કર્યા. તેમણે અર્જુનને તેની બહેન સુભદ્રા સાથે લગ્ન કરવામાં પણ મદદ કરી.

૫. મહાભારતમાં કૃષ્ણ – દૈવી માર્ગદર્શક
કૃષ્ણે મહાભારતમાં મુખ્ય ભૂમિકા ભજવી હતી, કૌરવો સામેના સંઘર્ષમાં પાંડવોનું માર્ગદર્શન કર્યું હતું.

(A) કૃષ્ણ અને અર્જુનની મિત્રતા
કૃષ્ણ અર્જુનના શ્રેષ્ઠ મિત્ર અને સલાહકાર હતા. તેમણે અર્જુનને લગ્નમાં દ્રૌપદીનો હાથ જીતવામાં મદદ કરી.

(B) શાંતિ નિર્માતા તરીકે કૃષ્ણ
કુરુક્ષેત્ર યુદ્ધ પહેલાં, કૃષ્ણે કૌરવોને શાંતિ પ્રસ્તાવ મોકલીને યુદ્ધ અટકાવવાનો પ્રયાસ કર્યો હતો, પરંતુ તેઓએ ઇનકાર કર્યો હતો.

(C) અર્જુનના સારથી તરીકે કૃષ્ણ – ભગવદ ગીતા
કુરુક્ષેત્રના યુદ્ધભૂમિ પર, જ્યારે અર્જુન મૂંઝવણમાં હતો અને યુદ્ધ કરવામાં અચકાયો હતો, ત્યારે કૃષ્ણે ભગવદ ગીતા આપી. ગીતા કર્મ યોગ (નિઃસ્વાર્થ કાર્ય), ભક્તિ યોગ (ભક્તિ) અને જ્ઞાન યોગ (જ્ઞાન) શીખવે છે. કૃષ્ણે પોતાનો વિશ્વરૂપ (સાર્વત્રિક સ્વરૂપ) પ્રગટ કર્યો, જે તેમના દિવ્ય સ્વભાવને સાબિત કરે છે.

6. કૃષ્ણના જીવનનો અંત (મોક્ષ અને કલિયુગ)
   મહાભારતના યુદ્ધ પછી, કૃષ્ણ દ્વારકામાં રહ્યા. જરા નામના શિકારીએ ભૂલથી કૃષ્ણના પગ પર તીર છોડ્યું, જેના કારણે તેઓ પૃથ્વી છોડી ગયા. તેમના નિધનથી કલિયુગની શરૂઆત થઈ, જે વર્તમાન અંધકાર અને ભૌતિકવાદનો યુગ છે.

૭. કૃષ્ણના જીવનના ઉપદેશો
આસક્તિ વિના તમારું કર્તવ્ય કરો (કર્મયોગ). સાચો પ્રેમ નિઃસ્વાર્થ અને શુદ્ધ (ભક્તિ) છે. ભગવાન દરેકમાં અને દરેક વસ્તુમાં હાજર છે. ભક્તિ, ન્યાય અને શાણપણ મુક્તિ (મોક્ષ) તરફ દોરી જાય છે.

૮. કૃષ્ણની પૂજા અને તહેવારો
જન્મષ્ટમી → કૃષ્ણનો જન્મદિવસ, ઉપવાસ, ગાયન અને મધ્યરાત્રિની પ્રાર્થના સાથે ઉજવવામાં આવે છે.

ગોવર્ધન પૂજા → કૃષ્ણ દ્વારા ગોવર્ધન પર્વત ઉપાડવાની ઉજવણી.

હોળી → રંગોનો તહેવાર, કૃષ્ણના રાધા પ્રત્યેના પ્રેમની ઉજવણી.
